At Otago Mental Health Support Trust (OMHST) we use our Lived Experience of mental distress and/or addiction to support and advocate with others.

We will walk alongside you.

What We Do

We value lived experience, focus on building connection and prioritise learning together over helping, following the Intentional Peer Support approach.

Peer Support

We offer 1:1 and group peer support. Peer Support is a relational approach where we carefully use our lived experience of mental distress and/or addiction to support, encourage and empower others.

Advocacy

We work at many levels to advocate for lived experience voices to be heard and respected. We promote and support self-advocacy for our peers.

Education

We offer tailored education sessions for people we support, community groups and other health organisations. We use a peer-led conversational approach with a focus on creating a safe space for curiosity and understanding.
